Taco Bell steps into the new world of artificial intelligence.

BEACON TRANSCRIPTArtificial intelligence is slowly but surely taking over our lives step by step, as Taco Bell has announced that its customers will soon order meals by using its bot directly in Slack. Ordering food will become simpler and easier since everyone will be able to select the items they wish from the menu by communicating with a robot.

This is the first tool for ordering meals that is integrated into Slack. Customers have the option of placing their order on the go for an easy pick-up from the closest restaurant. The service is available on the app if you are already on your way or the desktop browser, so you can make you pick and then head out to get the food.

According to Taco Bell digital innovation and on demand director Lawrence Kim,

“Taco Bell is about food tailor-made for social consumption with friends, and that’s why integrating with a social communications platform like Slack makes perfect sense. TacoBot is the next best thing to having your own Taco Bell butler … and who wouldn’t want that??”

He further explained that the TacoBot is just the latest step the company is taking towards offering more accessibility to the brand whenever and where the customers want it. So how will you place an order through the artificial intelligence robot?

You will start by selecting the items you wish to buy from the Taco Bell menu. Next, the bot will address the order and state whether there are other ingredients included in the menu item, like lettuce or cheese. You can select as many items as you want, and even customize them by saying their preferences. Maybe you wish to add more cheese, or completely hate onions. The bot will understand and personalize your order.

Each item and ingredient will be displayed as a bullet point in order to ensure the order was understood by the bot. After you have completed your order, all that is left to do is type “Check out” and you will be presented with the total sum you have to pay, including taxes. Additionally, it will also send the address where you can pick up your Taco Bell order.

The new feature is currently in beta testing, but the company announced it will roll out in the upcoming months. Other options available until then include the Taco Bell website, and the company’s mobile payment and ordering app released two years ago.
