Tinder Is Only Directed at Adults

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – It appears that from now on, Tinder is only directed at adults. Some dating apps have loose policies when it comes to the minimum age of their users, but the company has officially stated that they will no longer accept members under the age of 18.

Up until now, every individual over the age of 13 had the opportunity of joining Tinder. All he or she needed was a Facebook profile and a smartphone with the Tinder app installed.

The algorithm used by the dating app coupled the minor users (those with ages between 13 and 17) within their age group. The maximum age difference between two Tinder potential partners was of four years. While it doesn’t sound very absurd on paper, the reality was that 21 year-olds were browsing profiles of 17 year-olds and vice-versa.

However, things have changed now. Tinder will automatically search for the birth date of a new user, and if he or she is under 18 years old, then the app will not allow that person to set up an account.

Some say that it is obvious that Tinder is only directed at adults seeing as it is the most famous dating app on the market. Other users declared that this policy should have been adopted a long time ago.

Other dating sites that are not as popular as Tinder, like Hinge and OKCupid, implemented this rule from the first day that they went online. They clearly stated in their company policy that all individuals under the age of 18 are not welcomed to use their services.

According to Rosette Pambakian, the change will most likely affect a very small part of the over 50 million users that the app has worldwide. This means that approximately 1.5 teenage boys and girls will have their accounts blocked and will no longer be able to access them. That is until they turn 18.

Teenagers are resourceful, and some of them will try to change their Facebook birthdate so that they will appear to be 18 or over. However, this kind of actions will have consequences for both the lying minor and the adult that takes him or her on a date.

What about you? Do you agree that Tinder is only directed at adults at it is a good decision to remove all of the minor users? Leave us your opinion in the comment section below.
