Star Trek and Watchmen Writers Will Write No Man’s Sky Lore

"No Man’s Sky"

I am very particular about my games. I admit this with both a measure of pride and one of shame. But there really isn’t anything to do about it. I am very particular about the games I play. There are a few things a game must have in order for me to like it. And it sometimes works for the best, while other times it works for the worst.

First of all, I’m all about a good story. If the game I’m playing has a very well-structured, compelling story, with interesting characters, then I’m willing to overlook a great many downsides it might have. Second of all, I ask for good or at least decent gameplay. We’re talking about a game, after all, so gameplay is a must.

I also want it to look like the developers did their best. And I don’t mean graphics-wise. No, I like it when it’s obvious that the studio put a lot of effort into creating the title I’m playing. I can go into a whole rant about that, but that’s not what this article is about. No, this article is about No Man’s Sky.

Going back to my gaming wants, I can sometimes overlook two of the three requirements, as long as the first one is just brilliant. Except for one – the part about the effort. If it’s obvious that the studio didn’t put any effort into the game, I’m not even going to bother. And the reason I’m talking about No Man’s Sky is because of its story.

First off, the story of No Man’s Sky is non-existent. Or more likely, it’s going to be a unique experience for everyone who’ll play it. This is because the game will contain some eighteen quintillion planets. You might find it weird that I said that I’m all about the story and yet I’m talking about this game in a positive note.

This is because the game might not have a story, or even main characters, but it will have one thing that can be even better than a good narrative – epic lore. Oh yes, it was finally announced who will be writing all the lore behind the alien races and planets in the game, and it’s simply amazing.

According to a report published by Sony, Star Trek and Watchmen writers will write No Man’s Sky lore. Here’s a small excerpt from the statement:

I’ve been lucky enough to have had the privilege of working with two very talented storytellers, people I’m a huge fan of – Dave Gibbons (Watchmen, Kingsman, 2000 AD) and James Swallow (Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Star Trek). They have tried to create their own stories in our universe, hopefully just like players will. We called it the ‘Adventures in No Man’s Sky’ comic (part of the game’s Limited Edition).

Yeah. The two, even though late in the production team, have brilliant writing histories. And they won’t be focusing just on the comic, but also on the lore behind the game’s fifteen quintillion planets and all the races that inhabit them. It’s going to be a wild experience, with a huge lore system developed by Star Trek, Deus Ex, and Watchmen writer. How can you not be excited?
